Little Shop of Stories Summer Camps

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 08/02/2019
Summer is magical! Everyone should have wondrous memories of their childhood summers and Little Shop of Stories strives to be a part of creating them. We love hosting weekly camps – most of which are book related — and filling the shop with the extraordinary sounds of kids doing kid things. We love making books come alive, and we love spending time with your kids. Here are some things to know about our camps:

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
  • Camps run from 9am-4pm every day. We provide a morning and afternoon snack, and kids are required to bring their own lunches and water bottles.
  • All of our camps take place in our upstairs loft here at the shop, but we take walking field trips around the square and to Ebster pool.
  • All camps cost $350.
  • Once again each of our camps will be peanut (and tree nut) free. Some of our campers have serious allergies and we feel that this is the most effective means of addressing this.
  • Cancellations made prior to May 1, 2019 will be refunded $300.
  • Cancellations made prior to three weeks before the first day of camp will be refunded $250.
  • Cancellations made within three weeks before the first day of camp will not receive a refund unless we are successfully able to find a replacement camper.
  • For more information on Little Shop of Stories (including sessions, cancellations or refunds), call (404) 373-6300 or visit us in the shop.

    The Monster Files

    June 10 – 14 | Rising 2-4 Graders

    With Jason & Heather

    Maximum enrollment: 22

    Cost: $350

Are you curious about Chupacabras, baffled by Bigfoots (Bigfeet?), flummoxed by folklore? Join us as we look for the Loch Ness Monster, yowl with the yeti, and jump with the jackalope! At Monster Files camp we will hunt down the truth behind these curious creatures of legend! Join the Little Shop League of Monster Hunters to learn all about the mysterious creatures of myth and folklore, track them, and maybe even invent some of our own!

    Camp Mythos

    June 17 – 21 | Rising 2-4 Graders

    With Justin & Heather

    Maximum enrollment: 22

    Cost: $350

Young heroes, seeking adventure, know this: before you can undertake your quest, you must first understand the trials of ancient heroes as they faced the gods and monsters of yesteryear! Camp Mythos is an exploration of all things mythology– we will play games, make crafts, and do activities based on myths from around the world! If you know about the war of the Titans in Greek mythology, the power of Dragons in Chinese mythology, if you know that Osiris was the first mummy, or the name of Thor’s hammer, then this camp is for you!

    Comics Camp

    June 24 – 28 | Rising 4-6 Graders

    With Jason & Karen

    Maximum Enrollment: 26

    Cost: $350

Draw, baby Draw! You know when you get caught doodling and reading comics instead of doing homework or your chores? Well, Comics Camp is exactly like that without the homework and chores. This summer, discover how to cartoon your heart out as we make comics. Whether you like comic books, graphic novels, comic strips, or webcomics, you’ll learn all about how to design, pencil, and ink your ideas and turn them into comics! In addition, this year’s Comics Camp will finish with a bang as every camper will make comics to sell at our 3rd Annual LittleCon, the only comics convention exclusively for kid cartoonists! (Want to know more about LittleCon? Here’s a write up from the Huffington Post from a couple of years ago.)
