Join us at the Northeast Georgia History Center as we delve into the Great Depression era. This interactive event promises an enriching experience for both young and old history enthusiasts. You will be left with a deeper appreciation for history and the resilience of those who lived through these challenging times. Join us for a day filled with learning, creativity, and historical immersion. Free for Members of the Northeast Georgia History Center and regular admission for non-Members.

Join us for a Homeschool Day at the Northeast Georgia History Center on Thursday, March 21st, from 10 AM to 1 PM, as we delve into the fascinating era of the Great Depression. This educational and interactive event promises an enriching experience for both young and old history enthusiasts.

 Scheduled Activities:

11:30 AM and 12:30 PM Radio Play and Fireside Chat: Experience the era's entertainment firsthand by participating in our radio play. Listen to a captivating Fireside Chat delivered by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, offering insights into the nation's struggles and triumphs during the Great Depression.

 Ongoing Activities for the day include:

  1. Step into the Past: Immerse yourself in the world of the 1930s as you visit our boarding house. Become a historical character and engage with others in a setting that mirrors life during the Great Depression.

  2. Join the CCC- Meet with a young man from the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and discover if you would have liked to join up during those challenging times.

  3. Craft Your Own News Paper Kite: Channel your creativity and make a News Paper Kite. Craft kits will be available for purchase, allowing you to create a piece of history and take it home with you.

  4. American Girl Doll Station: Explore what life was like for an American girl during the Great Depression at our American Girl Doll Station. Meet historical characters such as Kit Kittredge and Ruthie Smithens, and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges they faced.

  5. Touch the Tornado of 1936: Gain insight into the natural disasters that affected the region during this tumultuous period. Touch the Tornado of 1936 and learn about its impact on Gainesville, Georgia, and the resilience of the community in the face of adversity.

 Don't miss this unique opportunity to step back in time and explore the Great Depression era from multiple perspectives. It's an educational adventure that will leave you with a deeper appreciation for history and the resilience of those who lived through these challenging times.
