Camp Flix is the Southeast's premiere summer filmmaking camp – a one-week, real-world experience that immerses teens and tweens in the craft of filmmaking. Camp Flix introduces kids, ages 11-17, to the techniques, language, and processes of filmmaking and acting, as well as provide an opportunity for teamwork and collaboration as they make a short film during the week with other campers.

Hosted on Emory University and Kennesaw State University (Marietta Campus) campuses, Camp Flix offers day camp and overnight camp opportunities for tweens and teens. Led by a group of industry professionals, many of whom have taught in University film departments and worked for companies like WarnerMedia, Hulu, Adult Swim, Point Grey Pictures, and MTV, campers are given personal instruction from idea pitch to final cut.

Tom Karsch, founder of Camp Flix, is the former executive vice president and general manager for Turner Classic Movies and a 25-year veteran of the television industry. Karsch says, "We are excited to bring Camp Flix to Marietta with our new partnership with Kennesaw State University this summer. With great facilities including suite style housing and an excellent cafeteria, we are thrilled to have a new venue to help attract new attendees to both our day and overnight camps."

During their session, campers are challenged with a rigorous yet rewarding schedule, tailored to all types of careers in the movie business. The hands-on filmmaking experience includes training in cinematography, directing, script writing, special effects makeup, acting, post-production, and more. Participants work together in small crews to create one-of-a-kind short films that are shown then shared with parents and friends at a red carpet premiere on Friday night. For older campers, Camp Flix provides a unique opportunity to build their portfolios for college applications or potential employment.

“Now entering our 12th year, we are so proud to see former campers continue their filmmaking dreams that started at Camp Flix as they attend film schools and film programs around the country. Several of our former campers who are now in the business give back to Camp Flix by becoming counselors and spreading their passion for the craft of filmmaking amongst our campers,” Karsch adds.

The 2023 day and overnight summer camp sessions are slated for June 11-16 (Kennesaw State University, Marietta Campus); June 18-23 (Emory University); and July 9-14 (Emory University). Tuition begins at $795 for day camp and $1,495 for overnight camp.  All campers are housed in the university dormitories, with 2-4 campers in each room or suite. Scholarships are also available.
