Summer Camp at the CARLOS - Teen Camp: Earth, Water, Fire, and Air

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 07/12/2019
In this two-week session, ceramic artist Ana Vizurraga will lead teens on an exploration of clay—how it’s formed, how it’s sourced, and how it has been utilized by cultures around the world as represented in the Carlos collections.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

eens will look at the innovations of clay use over time including the earliest use of the potter’s wheel, Greek red figure and black figure vase-painting, and the work of Maria and Julien Martinez (Tewa), who revived an ancient indigenous process for making black-on-black pottery. Teens will dig clay, mix clay, form clay, paint with clay slips, and ultimately fire their pieces with a variety of methods from pit-firing to electric kilns.
