campMODA - Mission (Im)Possible: Escape Room Game Design
*The event has already taken place on this date: Wed, 01/02/2019

Different than a traditional escape room in which players must solve a series of puzzles to unveil a secret plot within a room, campers will be challenged to design an in-exhibition puzzle game in which players will be tasked to open a lockbox using hints from content within MODA’s galleries. Before prototyping, campers will investigate the gallery that they will be designing in. They will understand what design constraints exist, and brainstorm what forms of logic and what types of puzzles would best be suited for their game. Split into two design teams, campers will work collaboratively to prototype their game using materials from MODA’s Design Cart, like pipe cleaners, paper, tape, etc. At the end of camp, campers will become the players and test each others games.
Campers will:
-
Understand the important role design plays within physical, adventure games
-
Practice designer mindsets and skills, such as resilience and rapid prototyping
-
Create puzzles that involve strategy and logic
-
Test their games and consider further iterations
Cost:
$65 for MODA Members/ $75 for Non-Members
Please note camp member discounts apply only to MODA Sustaining Membership levels beginning at $8/month or $96/year and above. For more information about memberships or to join, visit museumofdesign.org/membership/ or contact membership@museumofdesign.org.
