A bit about Valery Lantratov

“Valery Lantratov was a true inspiration to my advanced-level dancers. He not only stressed placement, alignment and technique, but more importantly inspired them to be passionate about their dance.” – Anita Lin, Artistic Director, Ballet Western Reserve

Valery Lantratov was a principal dancer with the Moscow Stanislavsky and Kremlin ballets and a guest artist with the Bolshoi. He was personally selected by Rudolf Nureyev to be one of six lead dancers in the ballet star's 1991 farewell tour. In 1986, Lantratov was awarded the title "Honored Artist of Russia," and in 1997, Russian president Boris Yeltsin named Lantratov “People’s Artist of Russia,” the Russian Federation's highest artistic honor. He has toured as a solo guest artist in Japan, Germany, Italy, Greece, France, Portugal, Spain, and the United States. He made international headlines for his role as Czar Nicholas II in a production of the new ballet Rasputin which premiered in St. Petersburg in 2005 with Farouk Ruzimatov as Rasputin. He also holds a teaching certificate from GITIS (the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts in Moscow— certificate holders include distinguished artists, ballet masters, and directors who teach master classes or hold national artistic titles.) Valery Lantratov is the father of Vladislav Lantratov, principal dancer in the Bolshoi Ballet.
