 Guests experience the process of cloth making through demonstrations and activities ranging from sheep shearing and wool dyeing to spinning and weaving. Gather the entire family for a full day of fun that also includes open hearth cooking, blacksmithing, candle making, live music, and more at Smith Family Farm. 

This program is included in the cost of general admission for the public; free for members.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE:

Smith Family Farm activities

Shearing demonstrations
11:00 am, Noon, 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm, 4:00 pm

The arrival of spring means haircuts for the animals at Smith Family Farm. This traditional activity demonstrated on our working farm invites visitors to watch as the sheep and angora goats shed their winter fleece.

Beside the Point
10:30 am, 11:30 am, 12:30 pm

Bob Kirkman, Stven Carlberg, and Nathalie Levine play traditional, contemporary, and original contra dance music on twin fiddles and keyboard. Based in Atlanta, they bring their alternately driving and lyrical sound to dance halls around the Southeast.

Storytime with Mama Koku
11:00 am, 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm

Bring the kiddos for this interactive storytelling experience as Mama Koku spins beloved folktales.

Spirituals, stories and soul food
Ongoing

Ever wondered where those Southern comfort foods originated? Witness demonstrations and learn how the enslaved community shaped Southern food traditions that we love today. Stay awhile and hear stories and songs that provided an outlet for expressions of religious faith as well as resistance within the enslaved community.

Swan House activities

Cricket’s Mobile Petting Zoo

Be sure to stop by the petting zoo, complete with a variety of friendly barnyard animals.

Ride that train!
Ongoing until 4 pm

All aboard as kids enjoy a ride on the trackless train.

Carnival games
Ongoing until 4 pm

Play games of chance and skill and win carnival prizes and treats like cotton candy and popcorn.

Food for sale

Souper Jenny

Souper Jenny, which shares a chic, funky café space with the Atlanta History Center bookstore off the Atlanta History Museum main entrance, will be serving up items from her healthful menu.

Nerd Dawgs
Outside Swan House
10:30 am to 3:00 pm

Offering up delicious hot dogs with a variety of toppings.
