Memorial Day at Georgia Aquarium

*The event has already taken place on this date: Mon, 05/28/2018
In honor of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, Georgia Aquarium will commemorate this Memorial Day as part of our Military Salute programming. We are proud to offer free General Admission* for active and former military members and 30% off General Admission for their family members, courtesy of The Home Depot Foundation.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

At 12:00 p.m. on Monday, May 28, 2018, please join us in the Aquarium's main Atrium for a special program to honor fallen soldiers.

Amongst our café seating, you'll find the Table of the Fallen Comrade. This table, set for one, is a way to acknowledge that members of our armed forces are missing. They are those Killed in Action, Prisoners of War and Missing in Action. The tablecloth is white, symbolizing the purity of their intentions to respond to their country's call to arms. The single rose in the vase reminds us of their families and loved ones. The red ribbon is reminiscent of the red ribbon worn upon the lapel and breast of thousands who bear witness to their underlying determination to demand a proper accounting of our missing. A slice of lemon on the bread plate reminds us of their bitter fate. The salt is symbolic of the tears, both theirs and ours. The glass is inverted; they cannot toast with us this night. The chair is empty; they are not here.

In our Ocean Voyager Built by The Home Depot gallery in front of the large viewing window, you'll find the Battlefield Cross. The Battlefield Cross plays a part in many memorial ceremonies as a visible reminder of the fallen soldier. The helmet and ID tags signify the fallen solider, the inverted rifle with bayonet signals a time for prayer, and the combat boots represent the final march of the soldier's last battle.

This Memorial Day and every day, Georgia Aquarium remembers the fallen and thanks all military and veterans for protecting and serving our country.
